Baby Passport Photo Requirements (2026)

For a US baby passport photo, use the normal 2 × 2 inch format; lay the baby on a plain white sheet, photograph from above and keep every other person out of frame.

Do a baby's eyes have to be open?

For US infant passport photos, an infant's eyes do not have to be fully open. The face should still be visible and unobstructed.

Can I hold my baby for the photo?

You can support the baby, but no part of another person may appear in the final photograph.

Can I use a car seat?

A white sheet laid over a seat can work only if the seat and straps are completely hidden and the result looks like a plain background.
